Saskatoon Chapter Report for AGM 2023
Our chapter presently has almost 2800 members, who are mainly from the Saskatoon Public, Catholic and Prairie Spirit school divisions.
We do have others who have transferred in from other divisions throughout the province.
Our inner executive consists of a president(Lyle Markowski), vice-president(vacant), past president(Eileen Deneiko), treasurer (Irma Kittelson, Judy Pidskalny),and secretary(Linda Ashley, Donna McTavish). In addition, we have approximately 25 other executive members, who work in pairs to head various committees.
We hold an executive meeting each month, except July and August, usually the First Wednesday of the month. The attendance at these is usually around 25.
We have 4 or 5 chapter meetings per year. Our September chapter meeting topic was our Health care plan, with Murray Wall as presenter.
We have since had 3 other chapter meetings: a) Saskatoon police service on fraud prevention, b) Sask Council on Aging , and c) a gardening session given by Early’s . These have an average attendance of around 40.
We also hold two evening socials with live music, dancing, snacks, and drinks. Our October social was attended by close to 100. Our April social is yet to be held.
Ongoing activities include a Sew Much Fun group who meet regularly, a walking group which goes every Monday a.m., and a fall and spring golf tournament. These activities usually attract up to 30 individuals. In addition, other activities are scheduled as requested.
We host 3 brunches/banquets per year. Our welcome brunch was attended by 150, our Christmas banquet by 300, and our June brunch is yet to be held.
Our chapter awarded an honorary life membership to Fred Herron this year.
We sponsor a $2500 scholarship for an Education student at the U of S and make a yearly donation to the McDowell Foundation.
The challenges we have are: a) attracting new executive members, b) booking locations for our meetings as COVID has disrupted our STF Eamer auditorium bookings, and c) bringing back activities after COVID.
